Multnomah County Sex Trafficking Network

The goal of the East Portland Rotary Club in connection with Rotary international, is to build awareness to the fact that sex trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children is our problem because it happens in our backyards of Portland, Oregon everyday. As well as being, advocates for changes to the laws that govern sex trafficking and support the victims by helping them escape “the life.”

YES is an entirely student-led 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon. Their mission is to combat modern-day slavery by raising awareness about its prevalence in the world and empowering youth to be advocates for change. Educating youth about the existence of slavery is crucial because the rising generation has both the opportunity and responsibility to create a world where unjust practices in the name of profit are not tolerated.

The Junior League of Portland’s Stop Human Trafficking Committee was formed to focus on spreading awareness, advocating for survivors, and community collaboration. Together with the community, we strive to shed light on domestic human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Through funding from the Junior League of Portland and a grant from La Salle Preparatory School, JLP made a documentary, Waiting for the Light: Portland’s Sex Trafficking Crisis, which focuses on child sex trafficking in Portland, OR.

Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) is the only organization in New York State specifically designed to serve girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) was founded in 1998 by Rachel Lloyd in response to an overwhelming need for services for girls and young women at risk for commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking who were being ignored by traditional social service agencies.

GEMS’ programming is gender responsive, trauma informed, developmentally grounded, strengths based, social justice oriented, and culturally competent. GEMS’ founding principles reside in survivor leadership and transformational relationships. GEMS’ services are based on the needs and interests of survivors and the agency’s programming is developed based on survivors’ ideas, input, and expertise. GEMS provides young women with empathetic, consistent support and viable opportunities for positive change.

Multnomah County's Response to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

The commercial sexual exploitation of a child encompasses several different crimes, all of them serious. In an attempt to combat the main issue, Multnomah County has taken a collaborative approach.

With the committed support of a small group of volunteers, EPIK has become a national leader in the anti-trafficking movement. Our mission is to bring men to the fight and we're doing that in groundbreaking ways. To date we've disrupted over 10,000 attempts by men intent on purchasing another human being for sex. FAST (FIGHT AGAINST SEX TRAFFICKING)

The purpose of our organization is to help promote and network organizations who are working directly with victims, spread awareness about this atrocity, and to help you make a difference FAST!

In brief, you should know the following about us: Our founder, Wynne Wakkila, has worked to fight human trafficking since 2008 and FAST was established in January of 2012. Our emphasis is in helping YOU get involved to make a difference in the life of a victim FAST and to help promote the great organizations who are working together.

FAST hosts Kell's Human Trafficking events in coordination with City Club of Portland and co-sponsored by some great people (Wyden, McKeel, Avakian, L. Smith, Saltzman, Boone, Barton)

Distributes bi-monthly newsletters and helps to network organizations and people. Awareness and networking are our specialities.

Assist in teaching classes at the University of Oregon. FAST runs totally on volunteer work and does not accept contributions but helps to promote other organizations who need the funding. Also promotes laws and candidates that help our cause.
